This training is the first kind of many similar trainings which target graphic designers (Motion GFX & Print) of all levels (juniors/ seniors/ qualified/ unqualified/ formal/ informal) to come together and go through formal learning processes. The set of trainings are aimed at providing avenue for graphic designers to learn, share and promote professionalism in the conduct and performance of all graphic designers.
The 3D training is the initial initiative conducted on Saturday, the 1st of September 2012. Prior to this training, a request was sent out to all members on a facebook page called PNG-GFX DeSigners where members post in their proposed dates for training and interact with each other on other related or similar matters.
More than 20 members registered for this training however, for various reasons didn't attend the training. The 3D Training was on Autodesk Maya 2012, one of world's leading 3D Animation software. Autodesk Maya has comperehensive creative feature set with tools for animation, modeling, simulation, rendering, matchmoving, and composition on a highly extensible production platform. It is used by visual effects designers, game developers, in post productions or other 3D animation projects.

From the first organized training on Maya 2012, only 6 members attended. All of these designers who attended the first training were junior designers; three from the industry and 3 of them students from the University of PNG's Arts & Design division.
This training is the only FREE Training by far that offers comprehensive practical based training for the graphic designers in Papua New Guinea. This training is a commercially oriented and highly concentrated, highly industry-driven which is at most times conducted with fees applied. However for this case it wasn't, as it was intended to support the graphic designers particularly those who are disAdvantaged as proposed by the title of this blog.
A lot of graphic designers within Papua New Guinea, develop their skills from self-oriented trainings (self-taught) as I noticed and therefore, one way to assist them impart formal knowledge is to share some of the knowledge and experience so that they get encouragement and can continue to learn more as we all contribute to impacting the design industry of this nation.

We were fortunate to have the APEC Digital Opportunity Center (ADOC 2.0), a project initiated by the ADOC Secretariat in Taiwan and supported by the University of Papua New Guinea. This project was endorsed by the PNG Government in support from the Chinese-Taipei (Taiwan) Trade Mission here in Port Moresby. We've used the ADOC Lab to conduct this training. We would also use this same lab for other similar trainings in future to help the designers.
There is a schedule for similar training in Lae, Morobe Province during the second week of December this year. This has the same intention to assist graphic designers improve their formal knowledge. Detailed information regarding this training would be posted after the scheduled training in December. Followup of this training can be accessed via the PNG-GFX DeSigners page on facebook.
Thanks Phil for the great initiative. enjoyed the training and would like to attend some more of your training in the near future.
